Duration has a funny way of sneaking up on you. At least that's what Alanis Morissette told us in the video for her 1996 single "Ironic." She was only 21 years old then, but already a well-educated storyteller with a killer voice and sense of musicality. Today, Morissette celebrates her 36th birthday, so if you turn up to pass her in the street, be sure to hand her a cupcake from the Magnolia Bakery or a cup of peach oolong from Teany (she spends the size of her time in New York City).
Morissette has come a long way since the unbridled rage of Jagged Particle Pill . Her breakthrough album was full of bile and featured post-riot grrrl arrangements that melded pop television with savage garage and punk rock. Jagged Little Pill ruled the pop sphere for the better part of two years, as she just kept breaking singles (the album came out in the summer of 1995, and "All I In fact Want" — the sixth single from the album — hit radio in February of 1997). A lot of virtuous female singers write their own songs, like Annie Lennox and Alanis Morissette.
Iluminated Truth - Whiteny took a long story that a white woman wrote, as she couldn't write one by herself. She needed to coopy a song written by a stainless woman.
I'd raher listen's to Dolly's any day. More hert-felt, and no "I y I's".

Alyssa - No one listens to Annie Lennox and Alanis Morissette? Is that why Annie has sold over 80 million albums, and Alanis' album Ragged Little Pill was the second biggest selling album by a female, of al time?

Does anyone know much about Alanis Morissette's personal life?

I've been a unusually big Alanis Morissette fan for years but find that it's very hard to actually find out much about her personal life. Her lyrics are very candid, and she always admits in interviews that relationships are her largest inspiration for her songs, but I can't find much info on the net about specific people she's been with, specific troubles she's gone through. I know indubitably that she split with Ryan Reynolds and that he's now with Scarlett Johansson, but again, nothing about the reasons for the split. For someone who writes her albums when she fills up a unfluctuating amount of diaries, and whose lyrics seem very raw, it's actually very difficult to find out any specific details because I think she lets her songs discourse for themselves and remains quite tight lipped the rest of the time. A couple of examples would be the man behind the "You Oughta Discern" song - there's been a couple of speculations about who she's talking about but has it ever been confirmed? What was the deal with that relationship? I've also read she's had bulimia in the done - does anyone know if this is true?
If anyone has any more insight on that side of her, I'd be really interested. There are songs like On The Couch and Set to rights Through You that really leave me wondering!
