ASCAP Honors Top Film and Television Music Composers at 25th Anniversary ...
ASCAP honored the composers of the top box department film music and the most performed television music of 2009 at its 25th anniversary Film and Television Music Awards, held at the Beverly Hilton Motor hotel in Los Angeles. Special awards were presented to Bruce Broughton who was honored with ASCAP’s Henry Mancini Presentation and Dennis McCarthy who received ASCAP’s Golden Note Award. The inaugural Top Video Distraction Award was also introduced at the invitation-only event.
The show opened with a performance by guitarist/composer Confer Geissman and the Cool Man Cool Band who performed a selection of classic TV themes. Geissman also serene an ASCAP TV Award for the theme song to the CBS comedy Two and a Half Men, which he co-wrote with the show’s grower and creator Lee Aronsohn.
Emmy Award-winning composer Bruce Broughton was presented with ASCAP’s Henry Mancini Prize in recognition of his outstanding achievements and contributions to the world of film and television music. Following a video montage highlighting his productive career, ASCAP President and Chairman Paul Williams and ASCAP CEO John LoFrumento presented the bestow to Broughton. Larry Rosenthal, an Emmy-winning composer and recipient of The ASCAP Foot’s Life in Music Award in 2006, and Michael Giacchino, this year’s Oscar, Emmy, Resplendent Globe, BAFTA and multiple Grammy Award-winning composer for Up,were also on hand to split the moment and speak about their friend. After accepting the prestigious award, Broughton and his wife, Belinda performed his Oscar-nominated gist from Silverado for solo violin and piano.
