The Players: Governor : Michael Winterbottom Writer : John Curran, based on the novel by Jim Thompson Producers : Chris Hanley, Bradford L. Schlei, Andrew Eaton Cinematography : Marcel Zyskind Pick : Casey Affleck , Jessica Alba , Kate Hudson , Tom Bower, Elias Koteas , Ned Beatty, Simon Baker , Bill Pullman The Draw:
Casey Affleck plays Lou Ford, deputy sheriff in a small Texas town, who may appear to be a “boy scout with a badge” but is in authenticity a cold-blooded psychopath. His affair with sado-masochistic prostitute Joyce Lakeland (Alba) reawakens his barbarous impulses and as he kills to revenge the cover-up of his brother’s murder by the local big-wig (Beatty), and kills again to screen his own tracks, the local union boss (Koteas) gets antsy and the DA (Baker) gets distrustful.
The Good: Casey Affleck . He’s given a great deal more to imply than actually
Virile or female -- whoever it is, I'd like to know your opinions! Maybe it's someone whose work you've admired for some time now, peradventure it's someone who you're just surprised hasn't won one yet.
Personally, I'd like to see the following win one someday:
- Paul Bettany
- Casey Affleck
- Brendan Fletcher (although, mournfully, I don't see this happening; his work is pretty small-time)
- Chris Cooper
- Paul Giamatti
- Sir Ian McKellen
- Ryan Gosling
- Ellen Foot-boy
Izzy - Brendan Fletcher is a small town Canadian actor who I grew up watching on telly as a kid (he was on a few episodes of Goosebumps, Caitlin's Way, etc.). A few years ago he started doing indie movies, and he blew me away with his exhibition in '18.'
Lately, he's been guest starring on an episode here and there of some more popular television shows such as a season one episode of 'Spectral,' and episode three of 'The Listener.'
big ditto on Paul Bettany (he's untapped the right stuff. Master and Commander should have given him more work.) and Paul Giamatti.
Chris Cooper won an oscar for Modifying. didn't he? even if he did, I could see him getting another. he's tremendous in everything he does.
I'd also like to see Cillian Murphy get one. Barry Pepper if he got more trade has the potential to be really good. His performances in TV work *61 and the one about Dale Earhnheart (can't remember the name) were very respected.
women--unfortunately, we don't seem to have much but eye candy out there right now. at least, that's all the parts they seem to be given.

Blu-Ray Highlight: Gone Baby Gone
Starring: Casey Affleck, Michelle Monaghan, Amy Ryan, Morgan Freeman, Ed Harris Directed By: Ben Affleck Written By: Ben Affleck & Aaron Stockard
Is doing the reason thing always the best choice? That is the question that Gone Baby Gone asks the viewer. A morally complex thriller, the videotape takes place in Boston, Massachusetts, where a little girl is abducted. Two private investigators (Casey Affleck & Monaghan) are asked by the maiden’s family to find her. The P.I.s are also assisted by a few other Boston cops (Freeman & Harris). Ben Affleck does an amazing job at directing this charming thriller; he proves that he definitely has a future in the director’s chair.
Deleted scenes, a behind-the-scenes featurette, a look at the casting of the smokescreen, and audio commentary by Ben Affleck and co-writer Aaron Stockard comprise the bonus features.
